/> NEW: FAR-82, BEC-87, REG-84.

Effectively, the Yaeger course helped boost my score by as much as 17 points.) (Note: To see the Yaeger course click here.)

I FINALLY managed to pass the cpa exam (all three failed sections) on my second tries with the following scores: BEC-87 REG-84 FAR-82. So it’s official -- I’ve Passed the CPA Exam!

I attribute my success to Dr. Yaeger and his team. The Yaeger cpa review course is the main reason I passed in such a short time. So all the positive things I read in the Yaeger CPA review reviews I came across in my research were for real after all. I like the Yaeger course because:

It makes studying efficient, by focusing on areas that has higher likelihood of appearing on the actual exam, and spending less time on areas that probably won’t come up in the exam.

The lectures aren’t boring, and make hard concepts simple to understand.

You can call the hotline to speak to the instructors to ask questions.

In spite of being one of the best, it’s one of the cheapest CPA courses available.

You can check it out by clicking here.

Dr. Yaeger explains concepts pretty thoroughly. There were concepts I never could grasp before that I finally “got” after watching his lectures. I would have been happy to pass with a 75, and when I got an 87 in BEC I knew I was onto something good.

I also called their study hotline a few times when I was still confused about something after watching a DVD. I got Dr. Yaeger again a couple times and other instructors for the other calls, and they were always patient and never tried to get rid of me prematurely, before making sure they’ve cleared up my confusion. One time I was on the phone with Dr. Yaeger for a good 45 minutes over a taxation question. I would highly recommend the Yaeger CPA Review Course to anyone trying to pass the cpa. (Tip: Even if you’re already using another review course, Yaeger has cram courses that you can use last-minute to boost your score by up to 15 points I think. Just so you know.) There you go -- one of the most objective and unbiased Yaeger CPA review reviews you can find on the net, from a real student who’s actually studied from it.

I also attribute my success to my study buddies. Pete and Joann, if you’re reading this cpa exam blog, I couldn’t have done this without you guys! Pete -- good luck with your BEC test next month. And Joann -- yes you did pass the exams first but let’s never forget, I did get higher scores than you on REG and FAR LOL. Luv ya guys always!

And also, a big thank-you goes to my parents who have been more than supportive and encouraging throughout this whole ordeal. Thanks mom for your home-cooked meals which has saved me time I would have spent on cooking to gave me an extra hour to study every night.

Last but not least, a big THANKS to you all who have visited or are still visiting this cpa exam preparation blog. Passing the CPA may seem like a daunting task, but remember, if so many other people have done it (including me), than you will do it too.

It still hasn’t completely sunk in yet that I’m finally a CPA. David Bryant, CPA…ooh that sounded so good I think I’ll say it again. David Bryant, CPA. OK…I think I’ve had a bit too much to drink. Just came back from a celebration party for passing all my exams. I think I’m ready to get some well-earned rest now.

Tomorrow will be a brand new day filled with endless opportunities…. (I’m corny when I’m drunk, what can I say? LOL!)

David Bryant, Certified Public Accountant (had to get that in one more time. You don’t mind do you?)

P.S. Check out this site if you’re trying to get your CPA -- that would be my best tip for you.

Yaeger Complete Homestudy Course.

Also, I sent a mass email to my co-workers asking if they or anybody they knew were also trying to pass the cpa exam and whether they wanted to study together. I found 2 people who lived within a 15 minute drive from me and we’ve set up a tentative study schedule. Although we’re all studying different sections (I’m starting with REG, and they’re studying AUD and FAR respectively), we should still able to figure out things together and give each other encouragement when the going gets tough, which is what I need more than anything at this point.

Lastly, I received my NTS some time ago and had the 3 cpa exams scheduled (keeping in mind the study timeline from Mr. Yaeger). Here are the dates:

REG 5/23/2008

BEC 8/29/2008

FAR 11/18/2008

I know I’m not devoting a whole 3 months to REG like Dr. Yaeger I should, but I want to do the REG ASAP because that was the last section I took and I want to re-sit that exam before I forget everything.

The course is set – I just need to keep my head down, stay focused, and pass all three cpa exams in time for Christmas.

That would make this Christmas the best EVER!

Wish me lots of luck!

David
<div

I keep reminding myself that I’m not in this alone.

I printed out a bunch of labels that read “I WILL BECOME A CPA” and pasted it all over places where I could see them everday. I even stuck one on the ceiling right above my bed so I could look at it first thing when I wake and last thing before I sleep. This time around, I WILL pass the cpa exam, or DIE TRYING.

David Bryant, cpa hopeful, is officially back in business!

David
<div

Below are some generalized CPA certification requirements.

Education – If you want to become a CPA, the minimum education level you need to have is a bachelor’s degree that includes at least 24 hours of accounting courses and 24 hours of business / management courses. A minimum of 150 college credits are also required. Having stated the minimum CPA education requirements, many larger companies nowadays will expect you to have a master’s.

Examination – This refers to the infamously difficult-to-pass CPA exam. The typical CPA exam pass rate is less than 50% – essentially less than half of those who take the exam will fail. To adequately prepare yourself for this exam, it is recommended that you use a good CPA review course (compare the different courses by clicking here).

Ethics – After you’ve passed the CPA exam, you will need to either take a course in ethics and/or take an ethics exam, depending on which state you wish to get licensed in.

Experience – Another crucial CPA requirement is a certain amount of actual work experience in the accounting field. Again, CPA experience requirements are different from state to state. You will need to have completed a certain CPE (continuing professional education) hours in a certain time frame. Check the website of your state’s board of accountancy for CPA licensure requirements by state.

For detailed CPA requirements by state, please see this website.
<div

Just how much DO CPAs make? According to Payscale.com, the average CPA salary for a CPA working in the United States ranges from $39,668 – $89,973 per year.

This is a wide range, and the variance can be attributed to many factors, such as the particular company, job location, the candidate’s work experience and level of education, the industry the job is in, and the particular work position and duties.

If you are an accountant or accounting student considering getting CPA certified, you’d probably want to know how much MORE money you can expect to make after you become a CPA. The answer, according to ThisWayToCPA.com, is 10-15%.

Exactly how much is 10-15%? Well, if you’re a Jr. level public accountant with 1-3 years of work experience, working for a small firm, with your current salary being $50,000, then you can expect to be making $55,000 – $57,500 after getting your CPA license. And of course, as your work experience increases, your salary should increase accordingly, which would make the 10-15% translate into increasingly larger amounts.

You may also be interested in knowing the following trends with regards to CPA salary data for the United States:

-The average salary of a CPA varies from city to city, with New York paying the highest salaries ($63,067 being the median), followed by Chicago ($61,963), Los Angeles ($60,300), Boston ($60,248), Houston ($60,181), Dallas ($59,738), and Atlanta ($54,718).

-Generally speaking, CPAs earn more than the other types of accountants. For example, a senior tax accountant with 20+ years of work experience makes around $60,000 – $85,000 a year, whereas a CPA with the same level of experience makes $65,000 – $110,000 a year.
(Source: http://blogs.payscale.com/salary_report_kris_cowan/2010/04/cpa-salaries.html)

However, a salary increase isn’t the only perk you will enjoy as a fully licensed CPA. Aside from salary considerations, you should also know that being CPA licensed comes with it additional job security, as well as more career path choices, in your future working years. According to the AICPA, 75% of the currently working CPAs are expected to retire in the next 15 years, many of them occupying upper management positions such as CEO/CFO positions. What this means is that by getting your CPA early on, you’d be significantly increasing your chances of getting into management later.
You may have heard many people say that the CPA exam is very hard to pass, and therefore you may be tempted to put this monstrous task on hold. I’ve got one piece of advice for you: DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! The earlier you get started on preparing for the CPA exam, the less time and effort it will take you, because 1)the longer the you wait after graduating from school the more academic materials you will forget and have to relearn, and 2)the older you get the longer it will take you to study and learn materials, and your ability to retain the knowledge you learn will decrease with your age.
So, don’t put it off any longer!

You know you want to become a CPA, so you may as well start today by getting yourself a good, solid, and comprehensive <a

There are in excess of 5000 Prometric test centers located all over the globe, providing locations for people to take different tests and exams, and the CPA exam is one of them. For your information, the entire Prometric CPA exam process will be described below.

Before Contacting Prometric

Before heading over to the Prometric website to schedule your CPA exam, you need to have your NTS (Notice to Schedule) in order for Prometric to verify that you are indeed eligible to take the CPA exam (note: you need to apply for an NTS for EACH section of the CPA you wish to take). To get your NTS, you’ll need to register to take the exam as well as pay the fees to either the board of accountancy in your jurisdiction, or the NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy), depending on the state you want to practice in as a CPA.

Scheduling Your Exam With Prometric

Once you’ve received your NTS, you’re ready to schedule your exam with Prometric. You can do this one of 2 ways – by calling them over the phone, or by scheduling through their website. As you go through the scheduling process, you will be required to pick a Prometric testing center location, and a time and date to sit for your CPA exam. Be sure to choose a location, time and date that you can stick to, unless you’re prepared to pay a fee to change this info. Also be sure to register using the exact name that’s shown on your photo ID, as the staff at the Prometric test center will match the name you’ve registered the exam with to the one on your photo ID. You won’t want any trouble on the day of your exam resulting from a name mismatch, so watch for that when you’re filling out your details.

On the Day of the Exam

On the day of your CPA exam, remember to bring your NTS and 2 pieces of ID with you to the Prometric testing center (one of these must be a photo ID – check the <a
href=”http://www.nasba.org/files/2011/02/Candidate_Bulletin.pdf “>Canadidate Bulletin for a list of accepted IDs). Without these you will not be allowed to take your exam. Get to the test center early – at least half an hour before the scheduled exam time. You will need all that time to sign in, allow them to take your photo and get your fingerprint, look through all the rules and policies, and finally get yourself seated and ready to take the exam. Don’t bring anything you don’t need, as you will be required to leave all your personal belongings in a small locker that won’t accommodate much aside from a handbag and/or cell phone. It would be a good idea to bring earplugs if you’re easily distracted, as there may be verbal interaction between the other students taking the exam and the staff at Prometric – just make sure the ear plugs are the soft foam type without a connecting string. You are not allowed to bring stationary to the test station – scratch paper and pencils will be provided to you. It would be a good idea to stop by the washroom immediately before you go into the exam area, as you won’t be allowed to leave the testing room except during a break (more on that later) and break time is included in your limited exam time. To avoid having to go to the bathroom often, don’t drink excessive amounts of liquids, and especially avoid caffeinated drinks at all cost.

Before you start doing the actual exam, you’ll be required to log into the test computer using a password called the “Launch Code” which you will find on your NTS. After that you’ll have 10 minutes to go through the “introductory exam screens”, and respond as instructed. If you don’t complete the introductory screens during the 10 minute limit, your exam will fail to start and you will have to reschedule your exam and pay for it again, having the incident register as a failed attempt, so be sure not to drag your feet. After the introductory screens, your actual exam will start. Pay heed to the timer at the top of the computer screen and plan accordingly such that you don’t spend too much time on any one part of the exam. Note that the time you actually get to spend doing the exam is 30 minutes shorter than the Prometric test center session time (the extra half hour is required to cover the time you spend logging in at the beginning and completing the candidate survey after you’re finished the exam). Also note that you’ll have the option of taking a break after each part of the exam – called a testlet, where each testlet consists of one of MCQ’s, simulations, or written communication tasks. These breaks will be included in your test time, meaning the timer will not stop while you’re taking a break. Therefore, unless you have a weak bladder, or have trouble concentrating without frequent breaks, you may not want to take a break every chance you get, or even take any at all.

The time limit for the exam is dependent on the particular section you’re taking: 4 hrs. each for AUD and FAR, and 3 hrs. each for BEC and REG. After you’re done the exam, you need to give back your scratch paper, sign the log book, and get a confirmation of attendance form. After that you can leave, and enjoy a well-earned rest for the rest of the day if circumstances allow.
The AICPA will then determine your exam’s score and pass the results to NASBA, which will then forward the score to your local board of accountancy to be released to you.

For More Information…

For more detailed information on the entire CPA exam process from applying to take the exam to actually receiving your scores, be sure to read the <a

There are good reasons for that: a quality review course is going to reduce the amount of time spent studying and also increase the candidate’s chances of succeeding in the CPA exam. While there are plenty of different CPA review courses available right now it can sometimes be quite hard to select one that will allow you to do both these things. Here are some things that you need to take under consideration when you are selecting a CPA exam review course:

The Materials of the Course

Even if all of the courses will go through the same accounting concepts, each instructor will have a different way of providing the explanations. The best review courses are the ones that are taught by instructors that are able to explain difficult topics in a way that will be easy for everyone to understand. In order to increase the efficiency of the whole course, a good instructor is one which will focus more attention on concepts that are difficult while just lightly reviewing the ones that are pretty easy to understand. Some of the best CPA review courses are going to have samples of lectures available that you can listen to before you make a decision as to whether you will buy the course or not. There are some other ways that you can check out the quality of a CPA review course: take a look at discussion forums that deal with CPA exam preparation and also sites that review products. You will then be able to read the opinion of various people and read what they have to say about a certain course.

The lectures themselves can come in various formats and media like DVDs, a USB drive, recorded webcasts or live presentations. When you evaluate the course, you should consider the media that it comes in to determine whether it would be practical for you.

When you are thinking of buying a review course, you need to check whether there is any expiry date for the course materials. In some courses, there will be parts that will only be available for a limited amount of time after you activate the course. To avoid this, you should look for software which does not require you to be connected to the internet and will therefore not expire. If you do purchase an online course and it has an expiration date, be sure that you are given enough time for you to go through all the course materials before the expiry date.

The Practice Questions

Once you are done studying the materials required for the course, very often you are provided with some practice questions that allow you to put in practice what you have learned in specific case scenarios.

There are plenty of approaches when it comes to practice questions and they will differ depending on which CPA review course you use. Some will take an approach that is more complete and will ask you to answer every question that has a possibility of being found on the CPA exam. While this will give you ample amounts of practice, it will also be quite time consuming. There are plenty of students who do not have enough time to go through all the questions and never actually finish them, which will leave them poorly prepared when the actual exam comes around.

Conversely there are certain review courses which just don’t give you a sufficient amount of practice questions to correctly prepare yourself for the CPA exam. Now this is obviously a situation that you would not want to be in either.

The best CPA review course will be one which only has the questions that are more likely to be on the actual exam. Course creators will analyze past exam questions and then include the ones that are the most frequently found on the exam in their course. That way, you will optimize the time that you spend preparing for the exam as you will be focusing on the questions which will be the most important for the exam.

Support For Students

The amount of support that you will be provided with will depend on the course that you buy. If you are someone that would like to ask questions to an instructor over the phone, you will need to select a course that offers it. There are various levels of support provided by courses, some will only give you very minimal support, some let you email questions to instructors while others have full level support that allows you to call an instructor. Certain courses make a message board available where students can share information with others and talk to instructors. Before you select a specific course, ensure that the support level provided is adequate for your needs.

How Often the Course is Updated

There are sometimes changes to regulations and laws regarding the accounting profession. Therefore, CPA exam review courses will need to be updated often to reflect these changes. Make sure that the course that you are buying is complete and up to date.

Of course, there is always the price factor. But when selecting a course, you are much better off buying a quality course rather than a cheap one. The results will pay off when you get your CPA certification. Remember that the pass rate for the CPA exam is less than 50% and you do not want to lose time having to study again and re do the exam because the course you were using was inadequate.

If you’re looking for a cpa review course that satisfies all of these criteria and more, do check out It is not a secret that the CPA exam is one that is hard to pass. In order to pass it, you will need to be very persistent and to study for it. Of those who have taken the exam, many have failed one or more of its sections before finally getting a passing grade. While it is a difficult undertaking, you should feel proud of yourself for taking on the challenge. Be aware of the fact that you have had many other challenges before and you were able to get through them. This will make you feel more confident overall. Keep in mind that even if the exam is difficult, there are plenty of others who have passed it too and if you are dedicated enough, so will you.

·Get a CPA Exam Review Course and Make Sure it Is Good
There are a lot of CPA review courses that you can find these days. Some of them also include lectures that are in video format, which explain certain hard concepts a lot better than a guide or textbook would. You will find that the best CPA exam courses are those that include questions that appear more frequently on the actual CPA exam and will allow you to focus your efforts and energy on the questions that are much more likely to be on the exam. If you believe that you will need to ask questions to the instructors, be sure to opt for a CPA review course which lets you interact live with instructors to clarify certain course materials. Don’t go cheap on the CPA exam review course, as you will need a good one to help you pass the exam. You can read in-depth reviews of some of the best cpa review courses here.

·Create a Study Schedule and Make Sure to Adhere to It
You obviously have plenty of material that you need to go through before you will be ready to take the CPA exam, so simply studying for a few days before the actual exam will definitely not be enough. In general, you will need to study for at least 3 months on a regular basis for each section of the CPA exam. When you are planning a schedule for your studies, make sure that it is one which is realistic. If you put in too much studying time each day in your schedule, you will soon become tired of it and not stick to it as well as you should.

·Let Others Know About Your Studies
Passing the CPA exam is definitely not an easy undertaking, however you do not have to be alone. Make sure that you tell your friends and family members that you are trying to pass the CPA exam and that it is a task which is quite difficult and time consuming. You may get to help them with certain tasks around the house like cooking, etc. You will also need to make them understand that you might not be able to be there for every social gathering.

·Be Mindful of Your Health
Being in poor health will affect your overall level of concentration, which will have an impact on your studies. You will therefore need to take care of your health by eating well and getting adequate amounts of exercise, preferably each day. The most important part of this is to sleep enough. Get a minimum of 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night. You can also take a short nap in the afternoon if you need it. Make sure that you plan your studies in a realistic way and take a break when necessary. While certain people are able to stay concentrated while studying for several hours in a row, not everyone can pull off such a feat.

·Find a Study Partner
You can seek to find other people who are also studying to pass the CPA exam in your area and then invite them to study together with you. If you take a look through online forums dealing with accounting and CPA, you will find that there are places to locate a study partner. When you do so, be sure to set up a strict but realistic schedule. By studying with others, you will be able to feel more motivated and disciplined, plus you will be able to put your knowledge and brain power together to figure out any concepts that are difficult. If you are having trouble, your study partners might be able to support you and keep you going, because after all, they are doing the same thing than you. It is not a competition, as all of you have the same goal in mind: to pass the CPA exam with success.

·Focus on One Section of the Exam at a Time
There are plenty of people that find studying for all of the four sections of the CPA exam at the same time quite difficult to do. The thing about the CPA exam is that there is really a lot of material and you just cannot familiarize yourself with all of it at the same time. It is a much better strategy if you would focus your studying efforts on each section at a time, pass the exam for the relevant section, take a short break and then begin studying for the next section. Another trick would be for you to first attack the hardest section of the exam (this varies from person to person), as once you have passed the exam for the first section you will only have 18 months to pass the others.

·Focus on Areas That You Have Trouble With
Going through material that you already know well and understand completely may make you feel confident about yourself, but it will not be of much help during the exam. To make a more efficient use of your studying time, you will need to spend more of it on the parts that you are having more difficulties with. Go through all your materials, find out what are you weak spots and then focus on studying them until you finally feel confident enough that you know them well.

·Take a Lot of Notes
It is very important that while you study, you take an adequate amount of notes. This is going to help you keep everything in mind when the exam day comes. Remember that your brain will better remember material that you have seen recently but may forget things that you have done some time ago. Taking notes will help you refresh your memory when necessary.

·Be Sure to Time Yourself
When you are doing the practice questions, be sure to keep track of the time as if you were doing the actual CPA exam. This will help you manage your time well and help you be better prepared for when you get to take the actual exam.

·Practice, Practice, Practice!
The more practice you get, the better prepared you will be for the actual exam. Therefore, you should do as many practice questions as possible, as this will give you more confidence for the exam and will also better prepare you for it.
<div

If access to course material is restricted, it limits how you can benefit. It is therefore wise to consider how the course material is delivered prior to deciding which course to subscribe to.

Keep in mind, access to course materials can expire and you must make a note of the expiration date before buying. Important simulation software may become disabled when access terminates and this can impact on your ability to pass the exam. Some courses allow access for a certain duration before terminating access. Access expiration is normally only relevant when you access online materials, but the material can become irrelevant as some topics may be omitted from the exam. If you opt for a course with no access expiration, you need to make sure to make use of the material before it is removed from the exam.

2) Practice Questions

Practice questions offer an alternative way to make sure students know the key ideas and are able to retain them. They help make it easy to retain through use of practical real world examples.

With practice questions, a few CPA review courses take the exhaustive approach by making the student do virtually every question that has any chance of showing up on the CPA exam. This tactic is time intensive, but makes sure all areas are covered. A lot of students run out of either time or patience, or both, and rarely get around to finishing many of the practice questions, leaving them ill-prepared for the exam.

On the other hand, there are those review courses which fail to provide enough practice questions to adequately prepare the student for the exam. It is not ideal.

The best CPA review course will contain relevant practice questions. This can be done by checking past exams to identify questions which appear frequently. This will ensure the highest rate of return for the student’s study time by enabling the student to focus on areas that will probably matter the most.

3) Student Support

All CPA review courses provide some form of student support. If ask questions and prefer to talk to instructors over the phone, then choose a review course with that service.
